About the P&C
The Parents and Citizens Association is an volunteer organization which exists to promote the interest of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co-operation. The P&C is involved in providing facilities and equipment for the school and promoting the recreation and welfare of students at the school.
Visit the Federation of Parents and Citizens’ Associations of NSW website to read more about P&Cs
P&C meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month during term time. We meet in the OOSH/Pre-School building at 7:45pm usually for around 1.5 – 2 hours. All are welcome, come along, have a cuppa with us and find out what’s going on in your school.
P&C News and Information
The P&C and its sub-committees communicate regularly with the school community via the school weekly newsletter and the P&C website. Email communications are also often arranged within committees.
P&C at Normanhurst West
At Normanhurst West Public School, the P&C provides a number of services through its sub-committees including Canteen, Uniform Pool, Out Of School Hours care (OOSH) and Vacation Care, Band, Grounds Maintenance, and Fundraising (includes Craft Group, Family Fun Day, and general fundraising throughout the year).
Other services provided by parents outside the auspices of the P&C include, but are not limited to, laminating, Lucky Book Club, reading and maths groups and the class coordinators.
Money raised by the P&C is channelled back into the school through a wide variety of projects. In past years the P&C has contributed funds towards, among other things, the Early Intervention reading program, purchase of computer equipment and air-conditioners for classrooms, refurbishment of the school canteen, the building of the Covered Outdoor Learning Area and purchase of books for the library.
The P&C also holds an occasional social event giving parents an opportunity to get together and have some fun. Past events have included a dance night and trivia nights, keep an eye on the school newsletter and here on the blog for announcements!
To become a voting member of the P&C you will need to attend a P&C General Meeting, held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, and pay an annual fee of $1. Your membership becomes active at the meeting following the one at which your membership fee payment is recorded, therefore, in order to be eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting, held in March each year, you will need to pay your $1 at the February meeting. You may join the P&C at any time during the year, however all memberships are due for renewal in February each year.
All the services and contributions of the P&C rely heavily on the support of parent volunteers who in turn gain new skills or have an opportunity to put their existing skills to use, meet new people, learn about how the school works, have a hand in decision-making for the P&C, and provide a valuable input to the school and its students. Canteen, Uniform Pool, Grounds Force, Band and Fundraising all need people to hold committee positions and fill roster vacancies and of course there are the P&C Executive positions as well.
Every single contribution of time or resources, however big or small, is valued and appreciated and we are grateful and proud to have such an active and involved community at Normanhurst West.
