The NSW Federation of P&C’s arranges a series of group insurance policies which are available to government schools through the Federation. A number of these policies are required, such as public liability insurance, whilst some are voluntary products recommended by the Federation.
The NSW Department of Education is insured to be able to meet the financial impact of any legal liabilities arising from its activities. It does not, however, provide accident or medical insurance for students enrolled in government schools.
The Federation has arranged a group personal accident and sickness policy, Student Injury Insurance, underwritten by Accident & Health International Underwriting, a subsidiary of IAG Limited. Each school is able to participate on a whole-school basis with the cost calculated on a set annual fee per student. Parents are unable to insure children individually under this policy.
The policy covers a wide range of injuries and the permanent total loss of the use or functioning of certain body parts, as well as certain dental and non-Medicare medical expenses. The Student Injury Insurance Product Disclosure Statement and insurance policy wording is included in the link below, outlining what is covered.
The policy cover is provided Australia-wide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and covers all P&C activities such as Band and OOSH programmes in addition to all school activities.
